Morettino chosen by OperaWine as official coffee of Vinitaly's première event

Morettino’s artisanal Sicilian coffee will represent the world of coffee at OperaWine, the exclusive première event at Vinitaly, which is scheduled on Saturday April 1st at the Ex Gallerie Mercatali in Verona, one of the most fascinating and highly anticipated sectorial events of the Italian event calendar.

For the first time in the history of the event, organized by Veronafiere and Vinitaly in collaboration with Wine Spectator, one of the most influential American magazines in the world, Caffè Morettino will be along side the 130 best Italian wines chosen as “ambassadors” of Made in Italy during the event reserved for specialized operators and Italian and international press.

For one-hundred years, Morettino has selected and roasted refined coffees in Palermo, at the center of the Mediterranean. In fact, Palermo is where the experimental project of cultivating the first 100% Italian coffee started, led by Morettino, University of Palermo and the Botanical Gardens, news that was talked about around the world.

The Sicilian roastery will be at OperaWine offering sensory tastings of Specialty Coffees and refined blends produced from organic farming, prepared in Espresso, Moka and Filter brewed.

The tastings will be guided by the Morettino coffee sommelier, Nicola Battista, who will illustrate the main aromatic notes of the 5 coffees selected for tasting.

There will be two blends from the Morettino Coffee Lab project (#84 Coffee Lab, a blend from organic farming and, #87 Coffee Lab, a blend from Specialty Coffees of pure Arabica) and three single origins: the Rwanda Twongerekawa Coko Women Coffee, a Specialty Coffee that is part of a project that promotes women’s work in Rwanda, the Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Kochere, refined Specialty Coffee of 100% Arabica, and the Nicaragua Finca Jorge Lagos, a Fine Robusta of the highest quality, a treat for refined coffee lovers.

As in wine, coffee also comes from the expression of different terroirs: pedoclimatic conditions and soil influence the aromas of the single origins of coffee, based on the place they are cultivated. Aromas in coffee are almost double compared to those in wine: if in a glass of wine there are 600 volatile substances that contribute to the formation of the aroma of a wine, in coffee there are between 1000 and 1500.

The liaison between Morettino and the wine world began quite some time ago, thanks to over thirty years of activities of sensory paring taught in the Morettino Coffee School courses, and after OperaWine it will continue with a series of events during the spring and summer. For the fifth consecutive year the Sicilian company will be the partner of Assovini Sicilia per Sicilia En primeur, scheduled on May 13th at Radice Pura. On June 18th-19th the wine supply chain will be among the protagonists at the Palermo Coffee Festival, a Morettino event dedicated to biodiversity, which will be held at Palermo’s Botanical Gardens.
