The Opera dei Pupi (Òpira ri Pupi in Sicilian) is a type of theatrical representation with marionettes, featuring Charlemagne and his paladins.

Charlemagne, king of the Frankish and of the Lombard people, emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, rules for many years spreading the Christian faith to the conquered lands. At the helm of the courageous Paladins of France and his army, he was considered unbeatable.

He falls in love with of a young Saracen woman, who converts to Christianity for love, starting an exciting sequence of events featuring wars and treason, which are the focus of the “Opera dei Pupi”
