Sicilian Coffees, Morettino's project to talk about the island beauties

Telling Sicily in the world through its immense heritage of knowledge and flavors. An ideal journey accompanied by the intoxicating scent of coffee, among ancient ruins, theaters, cathedrals and majestic architecture resulting from the meeting of different cultures and peoples.

Morettino, a historic Sicilian roasting company that has just celebrated its 100th anniversary, dedicates to its land "I Caffè di Sicilia", an experimental cultural project that focuses on the island's main cultural attractions; fruit of the virtuous collaboration and constant dialogue with institutions, such as the Federico II Foundation, the Teatro Massimo Foundation and Coop Culture, the largest cooperative operating in the culture sector in Italy.

The project is part of a wide-ranging project path, which in the coming months will involve the Coffee Museum and the Morettino Coffee School through educational and receptive initiatives and paths, which will include the collaboration of the Departments of Cultures and Productive Activities of the Municipality of Palermo.

Always at the forefront of the dissemination of culture in the territory, Morettino will support the creation of some scholarships for the Massimo Kids Orchestra, the orchestra of the Teatro Massimo in Palermo made up of over 120 young talents who dream of a future in the world of music , and other initiatives in the area.

Areas Melting Pot

The "I Caffè di Sicilia" project also includes a selection of dedicated coffees made up of exclusive blends of freshly ground artisan coffee, created by Morettino master roasters to reflect - through the aromas and fragrances - the typical features of the territories to which each blend is dedicated. A sort of Grand Tour of the Island, which takes up some of the Sicilian stages of Goethe's "Journey to Italy" through the enhancement of the iconic places of Sicily.

The places to which Morettino dedicated "I Caffè di Sicilia" cover the whole Sicilian territory and tell the story of an island crossroads of cultures, which over the millennia has united peoples and wits to give life to unique masterpieces: the imposing Arab architecture- Norman buildings of the Royal Palace and the Cathedral of Palermo and the Duomo of Monreale, passing through the Baroque of the Quattro Canti, the majesty of the Teatro Massimo and the exotic nature of the Botanical Garden of Palermo. It was here, at the end of the nineteenth century, that the first example of Coffea Arabica from Sicily was planted, from which the plants of the experimental coffee plantation were later born, which grow luxuriantly in the gardens of the Morettino roasting

Each blend preserves the aromas and flavors of the territory to which they are dedicated: the blend dedicated to the Royal Palace, for example, expresses notes of orange blossom and bitter orange marmalade, the one inspired by the Cathedral accents of jasmine and prickly pears and again, the blend created on the suggestions linked to the Duomo of Monreale late mandarin notes from the Conca d'oro.

It is possible to buy "I Caffè di Sicilia" online on the morettino.com website and in the bookshops of the main cultural sites of the island.

“Coffee has always been a symbol of sharing, welcoming and integration. In this difficult historical phase, it is necessary to continue to believe in our territories and in our values - explains Andrea Morettino, fourth generation of the Sicilian family of roasters - The "I Caffè di Sicilia" project tells an identity that must be rediscovered, with courage and spirit of belonging. We want to return to the essence, to a concept of shared beauty that belongs to us and that is often appreciated by the guests of this wonderful land, but unfortunately rarely by ourselves Sicilians. And to do this it is necessary to continue to pass on our traditions, to enhance our natural beauties by investing in authentic values and on experiential paths capable of stimulating true emotions, lasting bonds and a physical or social dialogue that is, but always positive and far-sighted ".
